DANCING AS DAN'S FATHER PLAYS AT DANBY CASTLE
Danby Castle is such a lovely wedding venue at any time of the year.
In the past it has rained for me and my clients, but they all had great fun, this time for Kirsten and Dan, the weather was very mild indeed and the rain stayed away for much of the day.
HURRAH !
Kirsten and Dan are pretty cool people, and laid back, fun and a little quirky, so they needed a wedding photographer that could capture their fun and spirit as well as the totally relaxed atmosphere of their day of wedding celebrations!
Dan had played violin for a band at a wedding I photographed at Matfen Hall in Northumberland for the delightful Cate.
Later were guests at the two day Northumberland wedding of Rowena and William who enjoyed an Alice in Wonderland tea party in fancy dress on the second day.
So when it came to them choosing their wedding photographer, I had a track record and they knew I would capture their wedding celebrations as naturally as possible, truly capturing their day of fun and happiness!

I met with Kirsten and Dan a few times in York, both at their home and also in the centre of town while we shared tea and  a cake and a pre-wed shoot (the day after Dan's stag night!) so we all felt comfortable with each other.
How they met at a concert at the Methodist Church in Great Ayton in North Yorkshire, Kirsten's family home about 4/5 years ago and how their love and admiration grew over the years and Dan's romantic proposal in the garden of their new home with champagne.
on the day, I drove across the the lovely Gisborough hall, a place I know well with many weddings photographed there.

Kirsten was chilled out and happy when I arrived with lovely bridesmaids happy and smiling - and it was nice to meet her Mum finally too!
The delightful Jo Leversuch was doing the bridal make-up and it was nice to work with Jo again, she's a brilliant make-up artist and a lovely lady too!
I spied Kirsten's Jenny Packham dress and just knew should would look so lovely in in with her bridesmaids in beautifully elegant gowns, and her flower girl niece who had flown in from Australia looked beautiful when she was in her wedding outfit too!

During a break in the proceedings I went to search for dan, though that is easier said than done in the rabbit-warren corridors and floors of Gisborough Hall.
He was rather nervous, it has to be said, but dressed form head to toe in Paul Smith, he would knock Kirsten's socks off when they met each other at our destination of Danby Castle.

There was a lovely moment when Kirsten's sister-in-law-to-be came by the room to wish her the best of luck, but neither wanted to see each other, so a tender moment, holding each other's hands was deemed acceptable!
By now the campervans from All Cool Campervans had arrived, so I followed Dan outside and met with his parents too before wishing them all well and heading back to the room where Kirsten was busy with her bridesmaids getting her beautiful wedding gown on, as time was disappearing fast. There
Kirsten was soooo excited to get her Jenny Packham gown on, and with hair complete and make-up complete there was time for a quick couple of photographs with Dad and 'the girls' before we headed off to get in the vehicles and GET MARRIED!
The trip to Danby Castle is just half an hour or so over the North York Moors from Gisborough Hall, going past the signs for Moorsholm where I had photographed two small intimate weddings for Jayne and Ellie just last year.

Although it was pretty grey and with spots of rain as I drove up to the tops, once in the valley where Danby is the weather started to brighten up, and so it stayed during the daylight hours.
Dan was happy, but 'bricking it' when I chatted with him as Kirsten prepared herself next door to the ceremony room, but as she came down the aisle he has a smile a mile wide as she turned to see him, and two smiles met, to be married.
As a departure from the norm, Kirsten and Dan arranged to have a singalong halfway though the ceremony. 'Happy Together' was the tune chosen by The Turtles and it went down a storm - even with the registrars, I even hummed it myself as I took photographs and a cheeky 15 clip of video on my personal iPhone.

it was such a happy occassion and I was so pleased for them that it went down so well!
Soon enough we were outside enjoying champagne and canapes, really getting into the spirit of the day!
Later on, the three of us jumped into one of the campervans for a few photographs down at the bridge, and on the way I found out that the driver knew my brother-in-law Andy after living on the Isle of Gigha years ago where he lives even now, what a small world it is!

So, a few lovely laughing and goofy images in the campervan and around the bridge, a dash straight back for the wedding breakfast (thanks folks!) and lovely speeches from Kirsten's father, Dan at his entertaining best and best man Vince with a tender and touching speech.
By now it was dark, raining and evening guests were beginning to arrive, but there was so much more to come!
With so many musicians among their friends, there was an open mic, a band with changing members and a first dance from The Wombles which was rather frantic, before a waltz between Kirsten and Dan and by other relatives and guests.
After this, the caelidh got underway and later Dan and his father played violin and guitar together on stage, then Dan and Kirsten danced while his father played a beautiful haunting song.
It was time for me to leave and let the two families and friends enjoy the rest of their evening, and what a great relaxed day of celebrations it was for the happy couple, with lots of nice natural images to help them remember their memories for years to come.
I hope you enjoy this 'Sneak Peek' of their wedding day, see additional ones on my Facebook page HERE  and view ALL their photographs HERE on their return from honeymoon - passwords to be supplied by Dan and Kirsten and their close family members.
