A winter wedding at Lumley Castle with Elizabethan Banquet was a wedding with a twist for the lovely Aimee and Matthew who wanted something a little bit different for their wedding.
Their closest friends and relatives gathered for a totally chilled out, relaxed winter wedding at Lumley Castle with lots of twinkling Christmas lights and trees, candles everywhere, and happiness and laughter filling the Baron's Hall.
Aimee and Matthew wanted a hassle free wedding, a day of celebration they could enjoy, and with neither particularly comfortable in front of the camera, they knew that 90% of my photographs would be taken naturally, without stopping their day or taking them away from their guests - perfect for what they wanted!
I had met with the happy couple a few times before their big day - all part of the confidence and trust I instill in my brides and grooms and their families... so we're not strangers on the day and I become part of the family for that very special day.
Aimee was the coolest person at the wedding, totally chilled until 5 minutes before she went down the stairs to get married .. then the little butterflies kicked in .. she just wanted to be at Matthew's side.
The bridesmaids were fun all the way and such a support to the bride-to-be and as we all squashed into the tiniest bridal preparation room at a wedding venue I had been in a long time, we just got on with it - though at times I did feel a  bit overdressed!
It was lovely to see Steph Morgan who was co-ordinating the ladies hair with a colleague. I had photographed Steph's own wedding in February at Rockliffe Hall and she had also been part of two or three other weddings I had photographed in the previous year or two.
Once the bride's beautiful Ronald Joyce wedding gown was on and the bridesmaid's beautiful black gowns were ready to go, I had time for a few friends photographs and ones for Aimee's Mum and Dad too, before it was time to head down stairs and get married to Matthew!
I had met briefly with Matthew and his groomsmen and two best men earlier in the Baron's Hall, and they were all happy and relaxed, so it was good to see that they were still in good spirits in the Garter Suite where the ceremony was to take place
Matthew was itching to see his bride, and before long, there she was, all beaming smiles and Matthew said later that she  'looked sensational' as she arrived by his side.
matthew tripped over the wording of his lines little which led to a little comic relief for the guests and their closest friends and soon they were in each others arms and enjoying their first kiss as man and wife.
We headed straight down to the barron's bar, which is, a bit dark, but we soldiered on and captured lots of nice informal images of Matthew and Aimee meeting and greeting their guests, before we popped outside in a gap in the rain to make sure that we kept parents and grandparents happy with some quick, informal group photographs, before heading inside for the Elizabethan Banquet!
The team at Lumley Castle always put on a good show - and this wedding was whole lot different for many of the guests attending than they were used to.
Speeches were first and the two best men did an excellent job on Matthew .. though not enough to make him squirm too much!
Four bridesmaids all sang the praises of their bride and their bridegroom too as well as the father of the bride of course, then we had entertainment and a fabulous Elizabethan Banquet to feast upon (thanks folks!).
Once  I had taken a commemorative photograph of Matthew and Aimee on stage with the performers, there was some down time as guests checked in and new guests arrived.
I caught up on some family photographs that we needed to have in the meantime, then the masked ball got underway, with all the guests joining in the fun.
By then, I was ready to down tools after arriving at Lumley Castle early doors, and so I said my farewells and thanks to the parents and to Matthew, gave Aimee a goodbye cuddle and I left the guests to the rest of the evening's entertainment.
A GREAT day of family celebration for Aimee and Matthew.
I hope you enjoyed this Sneak Peek of over 400+ images that tell their story of the great day.

Matfen Hall Wedding Photographer Review

MATFEN HALL WEDDING REVIEW:
ANNA AND WARREN IN THE GREAT HALL AT MATFEN HALL IN NORTHUMBERLAND DURING THEIR DECEMBER WEDDING
I had a great time photographing Anna and Warren's special winter wedding in Northumberland and Matfen Hall in December .... HERE.
Anna had kindly penned a review of my performance as their wedding photographer!

".....When Warren asked me to marry him, I knew the one thing he’d want to look after in terms of wedding planning was the photography. However, whist doing my own research online, I’d already come across someone I was very keen on myself. I needn’t have worried though, Warren had identified the same person; we both were very sure that we wanted Dirk to photograph our big day!

One of the first things that attracted us to him was how natural his wedding photos looked. He seemed to catch all those important moments – and detail - without anything looking formal or staged. With both of us having lived in many different places, we were aware that a lot of our guests would be travelling a great distance and the last thing we wanted was to be taken away from our reception for lots of formal pics. I’d had my heart set on a late winter wedding which I knew would make it a bit of a challenge from a lighting point of view but from the moment we met Dirk for an informal chat at Matfen Hall (our reception venue), it was very clear that we were all very much on the same wavelength. We were just thrilled that he was available on our date.
Before the wedding, Dirk travelled up to my parents’ house in Northumberland, to take some pre-wedding photographs. After a nice chat and spot of lunch with my mum, we went up to take a look at the church we’d be getting married in in Felton. We both felt immediately at ease with him and just enjoyed messing around and being ourselves. Needless to say we were thrilled with the results.
Leading up to the day itself, the weather was pretty snowy but Dirk made it up no problem. Warren had been quite insistent that he wanted some photos of me getting ready and at the house Dirk literally blended in with the rest of the family. I’m sure he won’t mind me saying that he almost doubled up as a bridesmaid at times – giving us tips and even offering to carry some of the girls’ bits and pieces in his pockets!
Our day was as magical and Christmassy as we hoped and Dirk really managed to capture every special moment – from the mince pies in the church, to the guests crying with laughter at the speeches. We had some beautiful family shots taken by the open fire and Dirk ensured we were never away from our guests for more than a few seconds. To us Dirk wasn’t just a photographer, he was one of our wedding guests and I can honestly say I felt quite sad when it came to saying goodbye.
We arrived back from our honeymoon to our gorgeous presentation box of 500 photos. Not only do we have perfect memories from the day, we also have the most perfect photographs to go with them!...."
