I was really looking forward to Charlotte and Chris' wedding at Barnard Castle School Chapel and the beautiful wedding venue that is Headlam Hall on the borders of the North Penines at Teesdale and the Durham Dales.
I first met with Charlotte at her mum and dad's home at Barnard Castle a year or more ago, and almost as soon as I walked in the door I was invited to an informal tea with the family with cakes and nibbles, warm bread and home made pizza, so it was evident that they had already decided between them that I was going to be their wedding photographer of choice!
I love to build relationships, not just with my brides and grooms (which is where a pre-wedding portrait photography session comes in handy .. ) but also with parents and even grandpaprents, and with the advent of Facebook in particular, many brides and grooms and their parents seem to know more about me and my brides and recent weddings as I do!
So, Charlotte and Chris' big day arrived - suddenly it was all real! It was my first wedding at Barnard Castle School Chapel, reserved only for ex-students, and after looking around during their pre-wed shoot, I knew it would be a special place for a wedding.
I arrived good and early at their home, just a few hundred metres from the chapel, and make-up artist Kate Pymm was already busy at work, and I managed to capture some lovely images of the chilled out pre-amble to setting off for the wedding - including dad Barry's happiness and surprise and his daughters and grandchildren paraded in their outfits for him!
Soon enough I was off to the chapel to meet with Chris, who looked pretty cool calm and collected in the magnificent building where he was to be married to Charlotte.
By the time Charlotte and her father had started their walk down the aisle, he had gone a little bit quiet, and even Charlotte suffered from last minute nerves, but soon, once their eyes had met, their faces lit up and it was happiness all the way.
Time for a staged confetti shot to make sure that everyone captured the photograph for posterity and a few nice portraits back inside the chapel for 5 minutes -then it was off to one of my favourite wedding venues in England - at Headlam Hall.
I can't really write much different about Headlam Hall that I haven't written about with all my other weddings there - suffice to say, it's the quality of the staff that make a place special, and Headlam Hall are first class in this respect.
We had an hour and a half before the wedding breakafast, so lots of time for canapes and champagne, lots of lovely relaxed portraits of bride and groom and their guests having a great time in the spring sunshine - it was blue skies and sunshine all day for Charlotte and Chris' wedding!
I'm sure that Charlotte and her Mum Barbara were very proud of Barry's speech as father of the bride - it was one of the most entertaining of the many hundreds I have listened to over the years - there was laughter and tears as ever, followed by a magnificent wedding breakfast - thank you folks - and a nice touch was the family asking for all the kitchen and serving staff to be introduced - and cheered - by the guests in the room!
Time for us to head off onto the lovely lawn and the grounds for some relaxed images of the happy couple - and some of the many children at the wedding, before evening guests were arriving ....
First dance was over quickly with a cheer and then Hip Operation started their performance to take the celebrations into the early hours.
I thanked both sets of parents for their kind hospitality and friendship, and it was cuddles all round for the bride and groom before I headed off for the drive home to my own family, sound in the knowledge that Charlotte and Chris' families had done them proud on a great day of celebration at Headlam Hall.
The happy couple will send a link to a password protected website so that you can view all the final edited images, but enjoy 25 or so 'sneak peek snapshot' of their wedding day here!
